“PHOTO ESSAY”
25th OCTOBER  2019
ASSOCIATION VISIT TO 3 SQUADRON’s NEW HEADQUARTERS BUILDING
Williamtown RAAF Base.

On the 25th of October, the Association enjoyed a magnificent day as guests of the Squadron in their new 3SQN Headquarters Building. A lot of work has been put into displaying the huge collection of 3 Squadron memorabilia, with many collectible items and photos of dramatic scenes from the Squadron’s past. As expected, the “5th Generation” facilities for the F-35 are “high tech” and “top notch”. Many key functions, from aircraft despatch to fault reporting, are integrated using technology. Another amazing innovation, even for recent veterans, was the Air-Conditioned F-35 Hangar!  [Why would you ever want to deploy to somewhere unpleasant?]

The earlier generations were represented by former 3 Squadron members; Felix Sainbury (El Alamein veteran), Gary Whitby, Wayne Beattie, Rod Smith, Mark Pearsall, Warwick Urquhart, Mark Webster, Ian Flett, Ron Slater, Graeme Holm, Gordon, Anthony Farr, Phillip Frawley, Larry Castle, and former WAAFs from Williamtown Yvonne Thompson and Jennifer Kellet; along with their families and decedents families.  In total 63 attendees.

The organisers really appreciated everyone’s co-operation on the day.  There’s nothing better than to see 200 people talking excitedly of a common interest.  There were many stories exchanged between the younger members and older ones.  The glowing feedback received re the day was very much appreciated.

Below is a selection of official photos.
